Deputy President William has finally spoken on the embattled Kirinyaga Country Governor Anne Waiguru’s impeachment.
Speaking to his Tangatanga allied Senators, the Second in command asked his brigade not to be intimidated by the ruling Jubilee Party leadership to save Waiguru from impeachment.
Reports by the Standard indicated that DP Ruto also asked the lawmakers to be independent and consider resilience of the case against the embattled Kirinyaga boss when deciding on her fate.
Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot, who graced the DP’s meeting with other 13 senators allied to the DP, started that he will make a judgment based on the evidence provided by the Kirinyaga MCA’s against Waiguru.
“My compass will be the law. If assembly proves their case against her, I will support the ouster. If they won’t prove it, I will acquit her, ” Aaron stated.
According to Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei, Senators would not get a chance to make independent decisions, citing unnecessary influence from President Uhuru Kenyatta and the ODM chief Raila Odinga.
Cherargei further noted that, if the the Head of State and Raila decide to save the Governor, the lawmakers will have nothing to do and the Waiguru will return to her office.
“Going by the previous happenings in the Senate, no matter what we do, Waiguru’s fate lies with Uhuru and Raila,” Cherargei noted.
Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen also echoed the same in his last Twitter post, stating the senators will be rendered powerless if Uhuru and Raila join forces to save Waiguru from being impeached.
“If Government wants to save Waiguru regardless of the facts, then she will he saved. If government and Capitol Hill dry cleaners combine forces then Senate will do NOTHING. A few of us will makes some noise, quote the Constitution and our DC will rule us out of order and declare her Mweupe kama pamba,” Murkomen posted.
