Energy CS Charles Keter is emerging to be the new headache for DP William Ruto after reports of the CS meeting Senator Gideon Moi. Reports indicate the former Kericho Senator who has been a strong ally of the DP is growing uneasy in Tanga Tanga.
On Saturday evening, CS Keter and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi are said to have had a three hour meeting at Kabarnet Gardens. CS Keter drove himself to the former president’s residence some few minutes before 8PM and left shortly after 11PM
”Senator Moi recognizes the importance of working with every leader, not only from the Rift Valley but also across the nation, to realize President Uhuru’s unity agenda,” says a senior KANU official.
DP Ruto’s camp is growing jittery over this meeting, given that Keter has been among the few Rift Valley politicians who can stand up and face the DP. Things are getting complicated even further over President Uhuru’s close relationship with the Energy CS. Some in Tanga Tanga believe, the CS could be put fully in charge of all government projects in the region, just to clip the DP’s wings.
Pundits believe, if the Energy CS were to break away from DP William Ruto, and have massive state backing, he is likely to create a political nightmare to Tanga Tanga in coming polls.
Prior to his nomination to the Cabinet, Keter belonged to the United Republican Party (URP).
He was elected to represent the Belgut Constituency in the National Assembly of Kenya in the December 2007 parliamentary election.
In 2013 he ran for the senatorial seat for Kericho County on a URP ticket under the Jubilee Coalition led by Uhuru Kenyatta. Since 2015 he is Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Energy & Petroleum.
