A week ago, ODM leader Raila Odinga met with the Nairobi Metropolitan Services team, headed by Major Badi at his Capitol Hill offices. Barely has the dust settled from the Raila-Major Badi meeting, Sonko now wants out in his deal with State House.
President Uhuru Kenyatta placed Badi in charge of the city following the coming into effect of the Deed of Transfer of functions that the national government and Nairobi signed on February 25, 2020.
”I directed the county government to fully support the metropolitan services team to enable it deliver where the county failed,” said Mr Odinga after last week’s meeting. This line may have been an indicator as to how much influence Odinga wields in running the city’s affairs.
The ODM leader is known to be a harsh critic of DP William Ruto, and information from some quarters indicate Raila might have used his power and last week’s meeting to have the Ruai Land repossessed by government, through City Hall.
When the former premier said he had directed the NMS Team to deliver where the county had failed, this was believed to be a jibe at Governor Sonko for failing to repossess the Ruai land.
A day before government took the 1600 acre sewerage land was reclaimed, DP Ruto and Governor Sonko had met in Karen.
