The government has ordered for the release of all ethanol held under any offences at any port of entry and custom areas, to be released to the Kenya Pipeline Agency to help in the manufacture of free hand sanitizers which will be distributed to the public.
”The government is desirous in distributing affordable hand sanitizers to the general public. To this end, corporations in the oil industry have volunteered to produce alcohol based sanitizers for distribution for free to the general public,” a memo from Head of Civil Service Joseph Kinyua reads in part.
The KPC will liaise with corporations intent on producing the free hand sanitizers as well as putting a framework of accountability to ensure the ethanol is specifically used in production of the sanitizers, and not any other thing.
”Further, KPC will implement the accountability framework to ensure that the ethanol is used for the manufacture and distribution of the sanitizers.”
