The County Assembly of Nairobi has suspended sittings for the next 30 days and has baned foreign travels for its members plus staff following the coronevirus pandemic. In a memo seen by the Kenyan Report and sent by Speaker Beatrice Elachi, the assembly says the suspension is in line with the national government’s directive to control the spread of the deadly virus.
Earlier on, Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya ordered the closure of all public morgues in his county. Oparanya said the dead in Kakamega County will also be buried immediately as this would minimize the spread of the virus.
Also Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago ordered for closure of all night clubs. Mandago’s directive comes a day after Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho and the County Commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo directed that all night clubs remain closed for the next 30 days in Mombasa County.
