Thursday, February 13, former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa was reportedly arrested by DCI sleuths and taken to the DCI headquarters along Kiambi road but the reason behind his arrest was not immediately revealed.
Kenyanreport.com jas however learnt through a credible source that the ex-CS was arrested on allegations of involvement in gun fraud.
Echesa had promised some Turkish nationals within hos circle that he would help them win a government tender to supply guns, this is according to the source.
The former CS was also arrested with documents from the office of the Deputy President.
“He has been arrested on links to suspected gun fraud as he has been telling Turkey Nationals that he was in a position to help them sell them guns and ammunition, he was also arrested with documents from the office of the Deputy President,” the source said.
He added that the CS would be taken to court as soon as investigations were over.
March 1st 2019, Echesa was fired in an executive directive signed by President Uhuru Kenyatta and by Education CS Amina Mohammed.
“…committed to enhancing efficiency, transparency and accountability at all levels of Government through a governance structure and leadership that ensures rapid delivery of public services to Kenyans in every part of the Republic,” the order from the President read.
