Court Denies Babu Owino Bail, Charges Him With Attempted Murder

The outspoken Embakasi East Member of Parliament Paul Ongili popularly known as Babu Owino has been denied bail after being charged with attempted murder at the Milimani Law Courts on Monday 20 January after his Friday 17 January arrest over B-Club DJ shooting.

Babu, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges pressed against him which include attempted murder, which carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.

The Embakasi lawmaker was also denied bail by Justice Francis Andayi who issued a directive that the legislator to remain in custody for seven more days with the case to be mentioned next week Monday 27 January.

The vocal lawmaker was represented by a score of including lawyers Cliff Ombeta and Dunstan Omari.

The State counsel also said that the prosecution have solid evidence against Babu from the eye-witnesses recorded statements describing the legislator’s act.

The prosecution further stated that the legislator was not new to the courts as the state expressed confidence in securing Babu’s conviction.

The council also requested to have Babu denied bail, claiming he could influence or intimidate witnesses as his position in the society should not be ignored.

One of Babu’s lawyers Cliff Ombeta has rubbished the claims by the state council that his client will interfere with the evidence and intimidate the witnesses.
