DP William Ruto has put in place an elaborate plan to take over the Jubilee Party ahead of the March 2020 elections. In what seems like a fight for the heart and soul of the ruling party, DP Ruto has mounted a serious campaign that will have his allies installed as party’s officials. Already, top Jubilee Party members, comprising party leaders who collapsed their outfits to form the larger Jubilee Party have already taken DP Ruto’s side.
Those Ruto plans to use in taking over the Jubilee Party from President Uhuru Kenyatta’s men are National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale, his Senate counterpart Kipchumba Murkomen and National Assembly Majority Whip Benjamin Washiali.
Key in their strategy is to evict the party’s Secretary General Raphael Tuju and replace him with a friendlier individual who is deemed to be pro-Ruto. Tuju is seen as an outsider and was once accused of working with Raila to destroy Jubilee.
Tuju has however rubbished the claims by a section of the ruling party members who accuse him of wrecking the party from within. On the upcoming elections, Tuju says they will ensure the party transitions smoothly as it heads to the 2022 polls.
” As a party, we are managing a political transition according to the 2010 constitution. We have to manoeuvre it with calmness. We need to consult each other instead of confronting one another,” Tuju said.
“Every interim official has a right to defend his seat. I was appointed to my current position by the party leaders because they trusted me. Leadership at this level is normally not because you are better than others or that you can win, it is about your peers reaching a consensus that you have the ability to serve at that level.”
