Mt Kenya MPs in the Tanga Tanga wing of Jubilee of told President Uhuru Kenyatta he must keep the promise he made in 2012 of endorsing his deputy in 2022. While speaking at William Ruto’s Sugoi home on Thursday at a meeting convened by the DP, the Mt Kenya MPs reminded the head of state any attempts to turn his back on William Ruto will be met with total resistance and backlash from the voters.
”Mr President must understand one thing. And we will remind him that he must keep his promise of endorsing Ruto in 2022. This we will say whether he likes it or not. We must be very honest with each other,” said Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri.
“We, as Kikuyu leaders in the Rift Valley, better understand the problems we’ve undergone every election year and we can make our own decisions without pressure from any quarters. Our people should never turn against each other again,” added Mr Ngunjiri, who is also the Kikuyu community’s de facto chairman in the Rift Valley.
The meeting, which was also attended by Rift Valley MPs was meant to strategise on 2022 as well as assure Ruto of Kikuyu leaders’ support. Oscar Sudi, who was also in attendance told President Kenyatta that the only handshake they recognize is that between Kikuyus and Kalenjins.
“The only handshake we recognise is the one between President Kenyatta and the DP. If, indeed, the Raila-Uhuru handshake was genuine, why were the other principals, including Kalonzo Musyoka and Musalia Mudavadi, left out?” Mr Sudi asked.
