How Uhuru Helped Sonko To Get Police Certificate of Good Conduct in 2017 Despite Criminal Record

The dramatic arrest and arraignment of Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has unearthed damning revelations and roped in big names in the process.

Many have questioned how a man with a glaring criminal record was cleared to vie. Well, the answer is here. With the head of State’s backing, some things are as easy as ABC.

It has emerged that it is President Uhuru Kenyatta that helped Sonko secure a police certificate of good conduct.

A source within State House stated that it took the intervention of President Kenyatta, through his personal aide Jomo Gecaga(President’s nephew) to direct the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to issue Sonko with the document.

According to The Star, it was after Gecaga contacted the DCI boss, Ndegwa Muhoro that Sonko’s good conduct certificate was processed and taken to the State House, where the Senator was attending a meeting.

A few minutes to 7 pm on Thursday, in March 2017, a senior DCI officer drove to State House and presented Sonko with the document and the senator went ahead to confirm it through his Facebook page.

This last-minute intervention by the Presidency came just hours before the Jubilee Party’s Friday deadline for aspirants to submit their nominations papers.

Before the State House meeting, Sonko had claimed that some people were trying to block him from vying for the Gubernatorial seat. It has also been revealed that during the meeting, Sonko was urged to drop his gubernatorial ambitions to allow other candidates face Governor Evans Kidero.

It was understood no name was mentioned but Uhuru’s inner circles were rooting for Peter Kenneth to be the Jubilee Party candidate to face off with Kidero.
