The Law Catches Up with a Man Defrauding Kenyans in the Name of CS Matiang’i’s Messenger

A man identified as Evans Ratemo has been detained by Milimani court for allegedly defrauding the public, purporting to be Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi’s office messenger.

Ratemo is facing a charge of obtaining money by false pretenses at the Milimani law court.

According to the court documents, Ratemo obtained Sh600,000 from Wilfred Nyachwaya on grounds to help secure jobs for Nyachwaya’s relatives.

Court papers also disclosed that Ratemo promised Nyachwaya that he would secure three jobs in the Kenya Prisons Department on October 2 at Langata.

Ratemo, however, denied all the charges pressed against him and applied to be granted a lenient cash bail and bond through his lawyer.

Ratemo’s bail application was opposed by the prosecution, through investigating officer Protas Maeba, claiming he might disappear if released before the case case is solved.

“It is my prayer to this honourable court not to grant the accused person bond because there is a high chance of him absconding due to his previous record,” Maeba stated in defense of objecting Ragemo’s release.

Make a further submitted that they were expecting more complainants and also wanted to found out whether Ratemo works in Matiang’i’s office as a messenger as he claims.
