Bomet Governor on Spot over Procurement Irregularities, Clashes with Senate over 9.9M Office Furniture

    The Bomet County Governor Hillary Barchok on spot over the office furniture he procured using Ksh9.9 million.

    Barchok on Tuesday 3 December appeared to the Senate Public Accounts and Investments Committe led by Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang over the 2017-18 audit queries raised by former Auditor General Edward Ouko.

    The Bomet County chief was also put on the spot over several accounts of irregular procurement of goods and services by the Barchok’s office.

    Audit report presented before the Senate disclosed that the Bomet county chief’s office spent Ksh9.9 million on furniture.

    Barchok spent Ksh 398, 000 on an executive chair for his personal assistant, Ksh800,000 for the front office, and a serving table at Ksh 500,000, the audit report indicated.

    “The Bomet governor has an executive six sitter sofa set manufactured in kindred mahogany timber fully upholstered and spring back and sit-in leather worth 755k,” Kajwang’ stated sacarstically.
