Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru paid a courtesy call to Raila Odinga on Tuesday afternoon at his Capitol Hill office in Nairobi’s CBD. The meeting comes just days after the public unveiling of the BBI Report by President Uhuru Kenyatta at the Bomas of Kenya, where both Raila and Governor Waiguru addressed the audience. Two days after public unveiling of the report, Governor Waiguru would then host a high powered delegation including CS Fred Matiangi, PS Karanja Kibicho, politicians including Governor Hassan Joho, who is also the ODM Deputy Party Leader among others in Kirinyaga.
Today’s meeting at Capitol Hill come at a time the Kirinyaga Governor is positioning herself to take over the leadership mantle from President Uhuru Kenyatta as the region’s kingpin, if the president will make an exit in 2022. Waiguru has also been a strong proponent of the handshake as well as the BBI, throwing her weight behind Uhuru and Raila.
Even though he has not declared his 2022 intentions to run for president, many believe Raila is assembling a formidable team and a super alliance which brings together top politicians across the country from the major political parties to face off with DP William Ruto. According to a number of political pundits, Anne Waiguru is in the matrix and has been promised one of the Deputy Premier’s positions once the BBI Report has been amended.
