Kiambu County government has commenced impeachment proceedings of embattled Governor Ferdinand Waititu. Residents are hopeful the governor will be ejected out of office after being found culpable of misappropriation of county money running to a total of over 500M shillings.
Last month, Kiambu residents handed over signatures to the county assembly where over 200, 000 voters registered their approval to impeach the governor for presiding over poor management of the county. This was the first step to ensure Waititu was impeached. Few weeks later, after submission of the signatures, County Executive Committee member for Youth and Sports Karungo wa Thang’wa was axed from his position. Thangwa, a know Ferdinand Waititu aide was accused of play an integral part in the looting of county money and was being used by Waititu to steal funds.
The Deputy Governor James Nyoro has already taken over the county government and is effectively running its operations in the absence of Waititu.
