A day after the BBI Report was publicly launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga at Bomas of Kenya, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka convened a meeting with his Wiper Party to deliberate on the document. It is from the deliberations that Musyoka said the PM position as currently proposed in the document is too weak and must be adjusted to make it a more powerful one.
“I would like to go to the recommendations that we made as NASA coalition for a PM. Personally I would have preferred a situation where the PM has some powers,” the Special Envoy to South Sudan said at his party’s headquarters in Lavington.
“Relevant adjustments should be made to ensure that more powers are given to the individual who will be appointed to serve in the recommended position,” he said.
Kalonzo however expressed confidence that BBI proposals would sail through, but said it was unclear whether the changes would be done through a referendum or popular vote.
“It is still early, and we have many deliberations ahead,” he said, adding that some of the suggestions he submitted to the task force had been considered.
