DP Ruto’s mouthpiece and Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has sensationally claimed ODM leader Raila Odinga called CS Matiangi’i mid air while the CS was heading to West Pokot, to ask him why he was not in Nairobi for the BBI preparations. Sudi says, it was this call that made the Interior CS to land in Eldoret and cancel the West Pokot trip.
” On his way to West Pokot, Matiang’i received a call from Raila who asked him why he was away yet BBI preparation were underway. Matiang’i had to make a quick turn then land in Eldoret Airstrip, give an excuse about ‘weather’ through a press conference then fly back to Nairobi quickly,” Sudi said.
Sudi wwondered why CS Matiangi was using weather as an excuse for not getting to West Pokot yet DP William Ruto’s chopper safely flew and landed in the area without any incident or weather problems.
”If weather was indeed an issue, then DP William Ruto would have cancelled his journey to Kapenguria too, nonetheless Matiang’i would have alternatively travelled by road given that it’s only two hours from Eldoret to Kapenguria. It is sad that DP William Ruto had to deploy his chopper to airlift medical personnel to affected sites while the military choppers are being used by people who are serving those who want to cling to power,” Sudi added.
The helicopter carrying Interior CS Fred Matiang’i and his Devolution counterpart Eugene Wamalwa was forced to land in Eldoret on Monday morning due to bad weather.
The cabinet secretaries were also accompanied by the Police Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai.
The team was on their way to Kapenguria in West Pokot to access the situation following the weekend landslide that has so far claimed 52 lives.
“We have been forced to land in Eldoret. We were on our way to Kapenguria Referral Hospital to meet leaders and victims of the landslide in West Pokot. We left Nairobi at 8:30 in the morning. The weather is very bad. We do not want to defy the advisory that we are getting from the pilot and the experts we are with,” Matiang’i said.
