The no-nonsense Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i’s frequent visits to the South Nyanza region and unity call between the Luo and the Kisii have left Kenyans wondering what exactly Matiang’i is up to.
Matiang’i’s frequent tours to Southern Nyanza especially Homa Bay County and his new public dalliance with Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders have now raised eyebrows and sparked speculations on whether the tough CS is harboring political ambitions.
The political also leaders supported CS Matiang’i’s unity calls and used the same platform as an opportunity to endorse the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report.
According to Nyamira Senator Kenedy Mong’are Okong’o, the call for unity between the two Southern Nyanza communities will enable the communities to champion a political agenda that will transform the country’s future leadership.
Dr. Matiang’i made an extensive tour of Homa Bay County last week for the third time in two months, where he called for unity between Luo and Kisii leaders.
Part of Matiang’i’s statement reads, “I appeal to both political leaders and the electorate in the Luo and Gusii regions to work together as members of one family. This will enable us to achieve a lot and transform our lives.”
Matiang’i in the company of senators Sam Ongeri (Kisii) and Kennedy Okong’o (Nyamira); and MPs Richard Onyonka (Kitutu Chache South) and Jimmy Angwenyi (Kitutu Chache North) also opened a police station, a new sub-county administrative unit and conducted two funds drives.
