Interior CS Fred Matiang'i

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i clashed with Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot at a funeral in Borabu Constituency in Gusii land on 22 September 2019 over allegations laid by Cheruiyot.

Addressing the mourners, Senator Cheruiyot laid claims that six months ago, Homa-bay County ODM leaders led Homabay Senator Moses Kajwang was plotting to impeach Dr. Matiang’i.

Senator Cheruiyot added that CS Matiang’i went ahead and had a secret meeting with the Deputy President William Ruto when he heard about the impeachment motion.

Kericho Senator Cheruiyot added that he met the cabinet secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i at the deputy president William Ruto’s office as he was there to seek for Ruto’s support over the alleged impeachment motion against him (Matiang’i).

When Dr. Matiang’i’s chance reached to address the mourners which he partly did in Kisii language, denied the allegations laid by Cheruiyot about meeting the deputy president Ruto.

Dr. Matiang’i said he had never set his foot in the Deputy President’s office neither has he met him, Matiang’i went ahead and urged all the leaders to stop lies in churches and said that people must seize from the lies being spread in public forums.

Senator Cheruiyot said he was summoned by DP Ruto who asked him what was cooking in the senate forum, Cheruiyot claims that he called the Jubilee lawmakers to address the impeachment story, and that was the end of the planned impeachment against CS Matiang’i.

The Deputy President’s allies have brought up an issue claiming that since CS Matiang’i was given a chance to spearhead the government’s projects, the CS has been working so hard to stop Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid.
