Why Kibra By-election Battle might Be a Threat to Uhuru-Raila Handshake pact

The Kibra by-election battle is currently seen as a big threat to President Uhuru Kenyatta and the Orange Democratic Movement(ODM) leader Raila Amollo Odinga.

According to some Kenyans, the president’s endorsement to the Jubilee flag bearer McDonald Mariga in the forthcoming Kibra by-election considering Kibra as ODM stronghold says the move is strange and does not augur well for the Unity of the two leaders Uhuru and Raila.

Behind the scene, Orange Democratic Movement(ODM) team feels the president have betrayed Raila by endorsing Mariga even though the top two party leadership ODM and Jubilee pretends all is well.

According to a source from ODM party claimed that all along they saw the Deputy President William Ruto as the only top Jubilee leader supporting the ex-footballer’s Kibra parliamentary bid until 18 September when the President declared to support Mariga.

The source from ODM party also added that photos of the President receiving the Jubilee team at Statehouse were first circulated on social media by DP Ruto’s team in a bid to inform Kenyans that the President Uhuru was in the mix all along while the whole world knew it was only the DP who was desperately pushing the meeting with the President.

According to some people, the president’s support to the football star Mariga in the Kibra by-election will impact the ‘handshake’ bid between Uhuru and Raila negatively.

The Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju dinied the claims of President’s support to Mariga’s candidature will negatively impact the handshake, however Tuju failed to ascertain whether the president will take part in the campaign or not.
