The council of governors(COG)has come out strongly to refute treasury claims that ksh. 50Billion has been disbursed to counties.
In a press release dated September 18, the COG through their chairperson, Wycliffe Oparanya expressed their disbelief in the uninformed remarks made by the acting CS, treasury.
”We take this earliest opportunity to inform the public that no money has been disbursed. Money can only be disbursed to County Governments once the County Allocation Revenue Act(CARA) is approved and disbursement schedule gazetted to facilitate approval of withdrawal,” read the press release.
Oparanya went on to caution the Treasury CS to step away from making statements that paint the Governors as people unresponsive to the suffering of the common Mwananchi.
The Ksh.50Billion allocation is in line with the implementation of the Division of Revenue Bill which was signed into law by President Kenyatta on September 17.
The COG were quick to jump to the defense of the county coffers even after serial misappropriation of funds by a good number of the county bosses. Over the past few months, Governors have been accused of misusing and stealing funds meant for development projects.
