Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has said he will not plead with Raila Odinga to support his 2022 presidential bid. Kalonzo, who was addressing mourners during the burial of Machakos member of Parliament Joyce Kamene’s father, Mr David Makumbi, said he was ready to fight it out with his opponents without asking ‘to be backed’ for the top seat.
On Sunday, former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama said Raila Odinga was the man to beat in 2022, something that has caused disquiet in Wiper Party.
Musyoka described Kalonzo as a man who does not know the value of money, a safe bet and custodian of the Kenyan shilling, but weak in decision-making. He however says Raila is a “leader Kenya has always missed”.Muthama says President Kenyatta is too much of a gentleman and not tough enough to run the country effectively, while Ruto is a more focused, results-driven leader but too overbearing and vindictive.
Kalonzo Musyoka has shelved his Presidential ambitions twice to support Raila Odinga, in the 2013 and 2017 presidential elections. However in 2017, NASA, a joint coalition bringing together Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi, Isaac Rutto, Moses Wetangula and Raila Odinga signed an MoU that if implemented, will not allow Raila to contest for presidency in 2022.
