ODM leader Raila Odinga will today unveil its aspirants contesting for the party’s ticket for the by-election slated for 7th November. Today’s rally is seen as a tactic to gauge the popularity of all the 16 aspirants who have declared interest in the seat which fell vacant after the demise of Ken Okoth.
“The party leader will present the candidates who have applied for the ODM ticket at Kamukunji grounds today,” said Dennis Onyango. The aspirants will be given time to articulate their agenda for the constituency in an attempt to gain early favour before the race begins.
Kibra Constituency is an ODM stronghold and the candidate who bags the party’s ticket is most likely to win the seat. However, the party is facing an enormous task ahead on what methods to use to pick its candidate, without any fall out.
“As the area ODM chairman, we are strongly advising that our party subject all candidates to a nomination process and the winner presented on the ballot and we will carry the day on September 7,” said Jeckonia , the area ODM chair.
“Equally we would like to appeal to have one of our own just like the late Ken okoth was – we are opposed to people coming from outside the constituency as if we don’t have qualified people to represent us,” he said.
According to Jeckonia, any other arrangement will see the party face a difficult campaign as other disfranchised might back the opponent something that might give leeway to other candidates in the race.
