ODM leader Raila Odinga has given the Nation Media Group 24 hours to apologize and withdraw their headline, falsely claiming the former premier had declared he is already in the presidential race. Through his lawyers Rachier and Omollo Advocates, Raila has demanded an apology of the same and aid it should be given prominence it deserves, plus treating the matter as an urgency.
”Our firm instructions are to to convey to you, in no uncertain terms that our client is aggrieved with the patently false and erroneous front page article aforesaid. In the eyes of the ordinary reasonable members of the society, the said article improperly imputes and suggests that our client is pretentious, opportunistic, mischievous, of questionable integrity as a politician and disregards real social, economic and political issues affecting Kenyans, all of which are untrue,” reads the demand letter in part.
Rachier and Omollo Advocates say Raila Odinga strongly objects what was reported in the Sunday Nation article which has created a political storm ad public response both from Odinga’s allies as well as his political competitors. Through his lawyers, the AU Envoy has said he does not believe a reputable Media House as the Daily Nation can allow itself to be used to preoccupy Kenyans to speculate on an election 3 years into the future, instead of focusing on real and impactful issues.
”Our client affirms that the aforementioned article undermines our client’s meticulous efforts to help the country address the delicate issues facing it, such violent elections every five years, runaway corruption, troubles in the counties, reforms in education and endangered national values,” the demand letter stated.
