The Officer Commanding Station (OCS) in charge of Kizingitini Police Station, Lamu County has been arrested for releasing a suspected drug trafficker.
The officer going by the name Shadrack Mumo, is said to have negotiated with the suspect nabbed with 25 grams of bhang, a mobile phone and a knife at Mtangawanda Jetty in Pate Island.
Lamu Police Commander Muchagi Kioi, said that they received intel of suspected drug smuggling activities into Kizingitini on Sunday after which they swung into action to arrest the perpetrators.
”We received intel that some drugs were being taken to Kizingitini on Sunday, after which police officers intercepted and arrested the suspect. He was later released after negotiations with officers led by the OCS,” said Muchagi Kioi.
In their defense, the Kizingitini Police Officers claimed that the suspect escaped while being interrogated at the station under unclear circumstances. A tale Mr. Kioi refused to buy.
This heartbreaking report comes a few days after a wave of gang related attacks hit the Coastal region. The high wave of crime in the region is attributed to abuse of drugs which has made the youths delinquents.
Nevertheless, the Lamu Police Commander has issued a stern warning to officers involved in drug trafficking activities telling them that their days are numbered.
