Away from the limelight, there is an increased activity concerning South Rift politics and the coming 2022 elections. CCM leader Isaac Rutto and his KANU counterpart Gideon Moi have drawn up an elaborate plan which is involving ODM leader Raila Odinga on how to hive off the South Rift block, especially the Kipsigis community away from the grip of DP William Ruto. Kenyan Report can authoritatively reveal Baringo Senator Gideon Moi has been secretly reaching out to the region’s leaders with the main intention of cementing his position in Rift Valley politics.
Last week’s visit of Isaac Ruto and former MPs Zakayo Cheruiyot,Franklin Bett and politician Paul Sang to Raila Odinga were not be design. It was a culmination of events which have been going on at the background for a number of weeks now.
“I saw the need to reach out to national leaders and Raila is one of them. We want issues affecting our people to be addressed in a manner that will enable them to live in peace and co-exist with their neighbours,” said the former Kuresoi MP Cheruiyot.
Odinga has also made a number of visits in the North Rift, with Elgeiyo Marakwet being his main target, having visited it twice and won the heart of Governor Alex Tolgos. Other Raila allies in the North Rift are MP Joshua Kutuny and it is rumoured Moiben MP Silas Tiren is also warming up to Odinga.
Political pundits believe the renewed interest of Raila in the vote rich region is because he is likely to play a pivotal role in the 2022 polls.
“Anyone who has been keenly observing the unfolding political events will notice that in recent months, Raila has escalated his talks with key leaders from North and South Rift, as well as gracing various functions in the vote-rich region,” says political commentator Harman Monyora.
