Itumbi Appears in Court this Morning as Government Seeks to Charge him for Authoring a False Document

    Dennis Itumbi in Court.

The state will present blogger Dennis Itumbi to court this morning as it seeks to charge him for authoring a fake letter on plot to assassinate DP William Ruto. The fake letter has caused a political storm in government as well as  magnified the divisions within Jubilee Party.

Two factions within Jubilee, those supporting the DP and those who are opposed to his ways have continued to express their views on Itumbi’s detention.Whereas the Ruto led faction of Jubilee says arrest of Dennis Itumbi is just a diversion by investigative agencies from getting to the bottom of the allegations on Ruto’s life, the opposing wing  believe Itumbi should be charged. They also want William Ruto to take a personal responsibility for misleading the public and causing panic, which has a potential of leading the country to a bloodshed.

On Monday, Interior PS  Karanja Kibicho termed Ruto’s claims of some people plotting to eliminate him as nonsense and a creation in the DP’s mind. Kibicho spoke  for the first time on  the damning assassination claims.DP William Ruto had alleged that a group of top government officials, including the Interior PS were hatching a plot to eliminate him.

” I hear assassinations claims… Who has complained? I am yet to hear someone complain. That’s utter nonsense and unfounded claims. We should stop creating things that don’t exist,” said the Interior PS.

He said the utterances are baseless and it was unfortunate it was being propagated by leaders as well as the media. He was speaking on Monday during the commissioning of a borehole at Shauri Moyo Police Station in Nairobi.

“We are credited with intelligence and brains, better than what we are hearing. It’s unfortunate we are occupied by media talking about imaginations. We must be a country led by logic and truths, it’s unfortunate that people make conclusions even before investigations. Political interference should not to be accepted,” he added saying nobody had filed a formal complaint regarding the matter.

“We should stop creating things that don’t exist. The moment we have a formal claim we deal with it in accordance with the law. We will not as a ministry be stopped from doing our work.”

State Prosecutors will be seeking to charge Itumbi  with making a false document. Also a charge of treason by imagining death of a Deputy President has been proposed.
