Deputy President William Ruto has snubbed top DCI officials who were sent to grill him over the assassination claims he had made against top government officials including four Cabinet Secretaries. DCI boss George Kinoti had assigned a team of sleuths to get statements from the DP, as a standard procedure for the investigations to commence but Ruto refused to give his statement.
It is established that Kinoti had assigned the head of Economic Crime Unit Michael Sang to lead the investigations into claims made by the DP, which have roped in Cabinet Secretaries Peter Munya, Ceicily Kariuki, Joe Mucheru and Michael Macharia. The DCI later established Superintendent Sang was unable to meet Ruto on Monday, with other reports indicating that the investigator had been told to ask his boss to talk to the DP.Earlier on,CS Peter Munya had claimed it was Michael Sang who had given them a call summoning them to the DCI Headquarters along Kiambu Road.
“Sang was kept waiting for the better part of Monday afternoon in vain.He did not see the DP. We are still waiting for the way forward,” said an informed officer who asked not to be named.
With Ruto’s refusal to record statements with the DCI, the investigations may hit a snag even after President Uhuru ordered the detectives get to the bottom of the matter. It is also emerging that a letter which is the major cause of these investigations appears to have been faked as its authenticity as well as the author cannot be established.
“Many believe the letter was intentionally authored by people who knew what they wanted,” said a detective assigned to the case.
