President Uhuru Kenyatta has heaped praises on his truce with ODM leader Raila Odinga, saying it is one of the best decisions the two leaders made made for the country. Uhuru also gave a clue of possible plebiscite saying the handshake wants to set structures and systems in place to ensure Kenyan politics never become divisive again.The head of state has vowed never to drag the country back to politics of division vowing to deal with any politician who wants to take that away.
”Through this handshake especially, we will be able to create a system and a style of politics where people will say we do not want to be dragged back tribal politics.If you want politics, it must be issue based politics, programme based, agenda based but not tribal or religious, because we have seen in that period where there were no politics of ethnicity, no politics of religion we were peaceful. And we are not going to allow any other politician to take that away,” President Kenyatta said.
The President was speaking at State House, Friday when he met 35 visiting professors from the Harvard Business School who are on a mission to learn his economic growth agenda for Kenya and the African continent.
The President also added that together with Raila Odinga,they are working on changing the country’s politics to create a lasting unity.
“We do not talk politics or about the next election but we talk about how we can all pull together to chase away despair,” President Kenyatta said.
