Organizers of the anticipated Uhuru-Raila tour to Tanga Tanga zones are putting up an itinerary which will accommodate not only Raila Odinga and the president but also other leaders including Kalonzo Musyoka and Coast political supremo Governor Hassan Joho. It has also been established that the Embrace Movement will be part of the entourage aimed at showing how much power the president wields as well as step on the neck of Tanga Tanga MPs who have been provoking him.
While commenting on the planned tours, State House spokesperson Kanze Dena said the president’s upcoming tours will extend to other parts of the republic with the sole intention of development projects as well as fostering national unity.
”The president has planned nationwide tours and we will announce the itinerary when it is ready.These tours as specifically for national development and fostering national unity.For now, leaders have to acknowledge that politics will not be given priority, instead we will prioritise the development and unity of Kenyans,” she said.
The visit comes at the backdrop of an Ispsos Synovate poll showing over 80 percent of Kenyans support the handshake, with Central Kenya and Rift Valley registering the highest approval ratings.
The study reveals that those who support the bond between Mr Odinga and Mr Kenyatta cite peace and tranquility as their main reason.The Ipsos study reveals 86 per cent of the respondents support of the handshake because, they believe, it has brought about peace and unity and eased political tensions in the country.
The study shows Rift Valley (76 per cent), Central (76 per cent), and Western (75 per cent) regions registered relatively –but still high support for the reconciliation as the remaining five other regions gave a considerable backing.
The research fully funded by Ipsos and was conducted between April 15 and April 18 this year also show he Coastal region leads with the highest number of people who have never heard about the Handshake or events surrounding it at 25 per cent.The region is followed by Western and Eastern at 16 per cent and 15 per cent respectively. In total, 12 per cent of respondents have never had about the newfound relationship between Kenyatta and Odinga.
