The ODM party has refuted claims going round in a section of the media that it had called for President Uhuru Kenyatta to endorse Raila Odinga as his successor in 2022.The party’s Director of Communications Philip Etale, in a statement said a section of the media had misinterpreted the information conveyed by two party leaders during the funeral of Mama Dorka Nyong’o, mother to Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o.
“It is appalling to see the media report that Senate Minority Leader James Orengo and his National Assembly counterpart John Mbadi pleaded with the President to name Mr Odinga as his successor in the 2022 election,” read the statement in part adding that it was a blatant lie aimed at misleading the public.
The party said its statement was about the head of state’s fight against corruption urging him not to relent and make sure his legacy continues beyond 2022, even after his retirement.
A section of politicians leaning towards the DP came out guns blazing on claims that ODM was engaging in 2022 politics by calling for an endorsement of Raila Odinga to succeed the president. This they say is a contradiction to the president’s stand that no one should engage in 2022 politics.
