I will Work with Other Leaders to Stop Ruto from Being President, Governor Mutua

Governor Alfred Mutua in Nyamira yesterday.

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has joined the growing list of leaders opposed to DP Ruto’s presidency in 2022. For a very long time, Mutua has been seen as a Ruto sympathizer in the Ukambani region, something which seems not to be accurate if his statements in Nyamira yesterday are anything to go by.

The  Maendeleo Chap Chap Party leader was speaking at  Tindereti Primary School in Borabu sub-county, Nyamira County  yesterday, where he helped raise funds for the institution whose alumni include area Senator Okong’o Omogeni. The fundraiser was attended by a number of top Kisii leaders including Senator Sam Ongeri, Nyamira Governor John Nyangarama, Nakuru West MP John Arama among others.

Speaking at the fundraiser, Governor Mutua, who has also declared an interest in vying for the top seat in 2022 said he was ready to work with like-minded leaders from all communities perceived to be minorities to ensure they played a bigger role in the country’s top leadership. He also advised politicians from Mt Kenya and Rift Valley to tone down on 2022 succession politics and instead support leaders from other communities for presidency, saying it was a matter of life and death.

He touted the names of  of Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and himself as being potential future presidents if the country adopted a policy on rotational presidency. He also hailed Interior CS Fred Matiangi for his hard work and service to Kenyans.

”Thanks also to Hon.  Dr. Fred Matiang’i for being effective and Chap Chap in serving Kenya and for your message. Ahsante leaders and people of Nyamira and the great Gusii Nation,” he said in a tweet.

On his part, Kisii Senator Sam Ongeri called out politicians opposed to the Building Bridges Initiative as well as the fight against corruption, calling them enemies of the country who should not be trusted.

”For now we are supporting war on corruption and if you are not with us in this, then you are the wrong person,” Ongeri said.
