Football Kenya Federation President Nick Mwendwa has been blamed in the raging outcry following a shocking decision to drop Kenyan Premier League top scorer Allan Wanga from Stars squad for Afcon.
The surprise move comes after another shocking exclusion made by head coach Sebastien Migne that saw Zambia based striker Jesse Were dropped from the squad ahead of final African Cup of Nations qualifier in Ghana.
The Frenchman also left out AFC Leopards midfielder Whyvonee Isuza from the 27-man squad which is heading to France for a three-week boot camp.
“I am picking the best possible squad and most of the times it provides a headache,” explained Migne.
“I am the coach and have to think about today and tomorrow. Every squad has surprises and for me (Sofapaka’s) John Avire is the surprise. I am looking forward to working with him and also Masoud Juma for the strikers positions because they have interesting quality.”
Wanga ,Isuza, Were join Leopards defender David ‘Cheche’ Ochieng who were surprisingly omitted from the provisional 30-man squad named two weeks ago.
Stakeholders and football lovers have accused Football Kenya Federation president Nick Mwendwa of using his influential position to frustrate good players in favour of his team Kariobangi Sharks Fc.
It remains unclear why Migne decided to leave out the Kakamega Homeboyz forward from the squad, despite his stellar performance.
The squad, which comprises of 27 players, is expected to depart for France on Friday and camp there for 19 days, before traveling to Egypt for the start of the competition on June 23.
“The Africa Cup of Nations is 25 days away but for us the tournament starts now with a trip to France,” Mwendwa said
“We have prepared very well and are going to try our best and get out of the group.”
Kenya is pooled alongside Senegal, Algeria and Tanzania in Group ‘C’ at the continental showpiece which begins in Egypt on June 21.
