Governor Mandago’s Brother Fell Off Stairs and Died- Police Now Claim

Police in Uasin Gishu County investigating an incident where a brother of area Governor Jackson Mandago was found dead in unclear circumstances have come up with an unexpected theory.

The body was found in an incomplete building at Chepkanga market on Monday, some 10 kilometres from Eldoret town.

While detectives had earlier alluded that the John Kinyor believed to be an employee of Kenya Pipeline Eldoret depot, might have been murdered elsewhere and his body dumped in Chepkanga- the script has turned.

Kinyor body was discovered in a hotel that is partially under construction. The proprietor of the hotel identified as Rotich told reporters that a plumber who had been called for routine maintenance was searching for a container to fetch water when he stumbled on the body.

“The plumber was looking for a tin when he walked to the area under construction and found the body of a well-dressed man,” said Mr Rotich.

Rotich said the man was a customer at the hotel and would occasionally visit over the weekends but often he does not stay long. The hotel is located only a few meters from a local Chief’s office and Administration Police (AP) camp. It relies on CCTV cameras that were mounted in 2016 since it has no night guards.

A section of residents said they knew the man whom they described as friendly and polite person who related well with everyone. The man’s family was yet to make any statements over the incident.

Eldoret East CID boss Ali Kingi on Wednesday said a review of  CCTVs showed Kinyor, 56, slipped from stairs on the first floor and fell into an area in which a lift was to be installed.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has sent his condolences to Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago following the death of his brother.
