Supporters of Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala have stormed Kisumu Central Police Station to demand the his release from custody.
The Senator has been denied his diabetes medication as well as food, something which has prompted public outrage as well as rebuke of the police.Earlier, word went round that the Director of Public Prosecution Mr Noordin Haji had ordered Mr Malala’s release.
The Senator’s supporters have been camping at the station since 5 pm where they carried meals they had prepared for the senator.However, they have been denied access something that has made the group impatient making them start shouting and chanting from 7.30 pm demanding the senate deputy minority leader’s release.
“We are only waiting for the DCI who was handling the case to come to the station and process the senator’s release,” says the senator’s lawyer.
The Kakamega senator was arrested on Friday afternoon in Kisumu in connection with murderous gangs that has been terrorizing residents of Matungu area in Kakamega county.Detectives say Malala, former Sports CS Rashid Echesa and the area MP are among people they have arrested for questioning following the horrendous killings which have claimed close to 30 lives in the past month alone.
