In 2017, a letter was circulating of flamboyant “businessman” Steve Mbogo having been summoned by police after his neighbors in Karen protested that he lands his chopper at wee hours in the morning and late nights thus irritating them.
The former Starehe Parliamentary aspirant who vied on an ODM ticket and lost to Jaguar allegedly told the police that he will only go there if he is provided with a landing pad for his chopper.
Others dismissed the letter as a publicity stunt.
That was not the height of his stunt though. In January this year, when the Country was invaded by extremist at the Dusit two hotel, Mbogo showed up with guns that frightened even the Recce squad on sight. Elite guns.
He was seen posing with what appeared to be a high-caliber assault rifles and a bullet proof vest outside of the Dusit complex where rescue operations were going on.
“I am a licensed firearms holder. I was running my errands near the dusitD2 Hotel here in Nairobi, when I learnt that the facility was under a terror attack. Because I was in a position to help, given I have good knowledge on how to handle firearms and protect myself against such situations, I went in to help in the rescue operations,” he later defended himself foll wing uproar.
Steve Mbogo claims to be a self made billionaire. In one interview with the Standard in 2017 he says.
“Steve Mbogo and money have been best friends for more than a decade. I made my first million at 18 years, selling scrap metal. By 22, I had bought my own house and was driving the first AMG Mercedes Benz S class in Kenya.”
I am not showy…” he continues, “I just live life to the fullest. What is wrong with working hard, and having the best things in life?” he asks while reclining a shisha pipe in one hand and an iPhone in the other.
He parties hard and loves the finer things in life. When he raves in Duabi, he hires Dubai, a yacht and partying. Hiring a yacht ranges from Sh27, 000 an hour for a 12-capacity boat to Sh100,000 an hour for a 40-guest vessel.
“This is the only vice I indulge in. I don’t drink alcohol, but I do know how to throw a party,” he says.
“My house in Karen sits on five acres. Where in Nairobi can you rent a house sitting on five acres for such a small amount? I bought the house two years ago for Sh500 million,” he says as he crosses his leg over a knee and reveal black leather shoes.
“My shoes are Louis Vuitton. I bought them for $2,000 (Sh200, 000),” he offers.
He casually adds that the most expensive gift he has ever bought for someone was a Sh30 million house he gifted one of his girlfriends for her birthday. He has a hot wife who is not afraid to flaunt the good life and two daughters.
But large scale gold selling and buying website, Zengold.com, claims Mbogo is a gold scammer, who cons foreigners, while enjoying protection from authorities.
He has been adversely mentioned din the ongoing fake gold scam. He is not alone. He is in a gang of close knit friends and co- conmen.
