The hospital that is located in Machakos County has a few hours before being fully closed for failing to meet required standards for operation. It is in the same hospital that a seven month old baby, Ethan Muendo succumbed after being given an overdose of morphine. The medication was administered to the baby without taking necessary precautions. The pharmaceutical society of Kenya gave a statement saying the right channel that would have been used was to confirm first if the baby needed morphine. And given that morphine has adverse side effects, the baby should have been monitored and given naloxone to reduce the effects of the dose. The aforementioned steps were not followed and this led to the death of baby Ethan.
Machakos governor Alfred Mutua gave the directive to close the hospital and transfer patients to other facilities within the county. Patients that were in the facility have since evacuated to other hospitals within Machakos County.
