The Three Thousand Gift That Has Seen Another Varsity Girl Fighting For Life After Boyfriend Stabbed Her

A Pwani University student is fighting for her life at Kilifi County Referral Hospital after she was attacked by her estranged boyfriend and alleged baby daddy.

Naomi Chepkemoi a Third Year student studying Public Health was stabbed several times in the neck, breast and back in Mkwajuni village in the outskirts of Kilifi town.

Ms Chepkemoi,  was rescued by her neighbors and fellow students who persuaded the man, who had locked himself in the house with the woman for more than four hours from 6am, to open the door.

Kilifi North OCPD Njoroge Ngigi said the man was in custody and would be arraigned this week.

Speaking at the hospital, Eugine Ochieng’, Naomi’s classmate and a neighbour, said the student sent him a text message seeking help.

“The man came at 6am. At first Naomi had refused to open the door and we don’t know how he convinced her to open. After a while, I received the text from her, which said: “Come and open the door for me please”. I went and tried to open but I could not. That is when I alerted others who came,” said Mr Ochieng’.

Ochieng’ said the landlady convinced the man to open the door.

“He opened the door and we found Chepkemoi lying down unconscious in a pool of blood. There were two knives beside her,” he said.

Diana Magut, also a neighbor, said Chepkemoi had not been in good terms with the father of her child for a long time and that there was a time they differed and he assaulted her.

Kilifi County Police Commander Patrick Okeri said the man, who is now in custody, traveled all the way from Nairobi on Sunday.

Mr Okeri said the man had traveled from Nairobi to demand why she had returned Sh3, 200 he had sent her last week.

“The two have a child together. The man sent the money for upkeep but he was shocked when the woman sent back the cash,” he said.

Mr Okeri said Ms Chepkemoi told the man that her father asked her to end their relationship.

“The man traveled to Bomet where the child was with the woman’s parent and he was denied access to his child and that’s when he decided to come to Mombasa to follow up on the issue with the woman,” said Mr Okeri.
