A police officer has been gunned down by suspected Al-Shabaab militia who have also abducted two Cuban doctors in the middle of Mandera Town.
The three, and another police officer, were believed to be headed to their work station when the kidnappers ambushed them.
Police believe that they were taken to Somalia by their abductors.
The armed suspects, who were armed, first blocked the vehicle that was ferrying the doctors before alighting and opening fire on the police officers.
One officer died instantly while the other managed to escape.
Witnesses claim that the militants crossed over to Somalia with their captives.
The abducted doctors are among 100 Cuban specialists who arrived in the country in June 2018.
Doctors Landy Rodriguez (a surgeon) and Herera Correa (general practitioner) had settled in well at the Mandera Referral Hospital.
Dr. Rodriguez revealed that he was initially anxious about working in Mandera after reading about al Shabaab attacks before he traveled to Kenya.
His counterpart Dr. Correa however said he had worked in dangerous territories before so his new assignment was not any different.
