Abuse of power is not something new in Kenya. Just the other week Member of parliament Babu Owino was being accused of giving his wife a job at the CDF and now this. Foreign affairs CS Monica Juma who is in Poland for a diplomatic trip, was received by June Ruto something which has left Kenyans with a lot of questions as to who appointed her and when, given that Kenya does not have an embassy in Poland.
“Arrived in Warsaw, Poland, this morning to attend the Warsaw summit which will be looking at security in the Middle Est, taking place tomorrow. Was received by June Ruto, charge D`Affaires” Foreign Affairs Cabinet secretary Monica Juma posted the above tweet after landing.
The ministry of foreign affairs had previously denied rumors that June Ruto was an envoy to Poland but the recent pictures prove otherwise. Official communication from the ministry is that June is the Charge D’Affaires in Poland since there is no ambassador there. The events leading to her appointment are unknown but it’s obvious it’s through the connections of her father
As usual this has not been received well by Kenyans who think that nepotism is being openly practiced by the appointment which is highly unconstitutional. William Ruto who in a recent interview admitted to acquiring the Weston Hotel illegally, is not new to controversy and will not stop anytime soon. Looks like other family members are getting a piece of the pie now.
The trend of high profile government officials hiring their family members at the expense of other equally qualified graduates must stop. In a government that strives to get jobs for the youth but gives priority to already rich people, is appalling to say the least. It is no doubt that other people want a slice of the cake too. Share these roles Mr politicians!
