Joseph kori and Judy Wangui’s yesterday’s appearance in a Kiambu Court was characterized by nail biting, fidgeting, nail biting and accusations of police torture.
The two alongside a car hire businessman cum Taxi driver were arraigned as the prime suspects in the murder of Kiambu woman Mary Wambui Kamangara. This was after 14 days in custody.
The first to be summoned to the dock was Kori Karue, followed by his mistress Wangui Mungai after the case was consolidated.
Kori, 41, cried uncontrollably in court. He broke down several times as the defense made its case against an application by the police to hold them for a further 14 days to conclude their investigations.
His lawyer told the court that Kori is a family man and would suffer more if he is detained.
The ‘Couple’ lawyer Cliff Ombeta claimed that his client Wangui underwent untold suffering.
“My client was tortured as two female police officers tried to extract information from her. They also attempted to coerce her to alter her statement, I don’t know in whose favour,” Ombeta submitted.
While in custody, lawyer Ombeta told the court presided over by Senior Principal Magistrate Stella Atambo that the officers “even inserted chili inside her private parts.”
The court at the same time gave investigators nine more days to hold the three suspects linked to the murder until February 27 when the case will be mentioned.
