Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, Police Boss Joseph Boinnet and their ‘boys’ are not bluffing with criminals and illegal sect members anymore.
Enter special police unit Snakebite- and just like the name, they are lithe, are undercover, lethal and ruthless. It is a unit formed specially and specifically to wipe out the so called Gaza gangs and Mungiki that have held Eastlands and Central Kenya hostage for months now.
The special Snakebite is made of no nonsense officers who were part of disbanded blood cuddling squads like Rhino, November and Kwekwe. They have instructions to show no mercy against the two gangs. The 60-member covert squad will infiltrate areas where the gangs are active.
The Rhino, November and Kwekwe killer squads are famed to behind the end of Mungiki a few years back. Thousands of youth were killed. Other fled to neighboring countries and even abroad.
Kwekwe is also said to have been the squad that killed Government critic and businessman Jacob Juma
The security bosses are taking the Mungiki issue seriously because it is believed their new leader is a former Inspector of Police. The ex cop is believed to be working with former aides of reformed Mungiki leader Maina Njenga.
The former officer is believed to be a manager of one of the matatu Saccos in Kayole having left the police service to venture into the matatu business .
“The former officer and an accomplice are trying to revive Mungiki, which has reared its ugly head in Murang’a, Kayole and Mwiki. We are doing everything we can to bring down the sect and its new leadership,” an officer is quoted by the Nairobian.
