Even as the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party leader Raila Odinga on Wednesday asked members of the party to avoid 2022 succession politics following expulsion recommendation of rebels, some party members feel the decision was uncalled for.
Those who faced expulsion are Coast Parliamentary Group chairman Suleiman Dori, Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa and seven ward representatives — six from Homa Bay and one from Busia.
However, Raila has assured those mentioned in the disciplinary committee report that they will be given a fair hearing by the National Executive Committee.
Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi and a host of MPs from the Coast, on Wednesday, said that the reasons behind the recommendation to expel the MPs from the party should be made public.
“I want to understand the reasoning behind this decision because we have dealt with it very carefully,” Governor Kingi said.
But Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo is more forthright with her sentiments towards the committee.
To her, the disciplinary wing has ‘has outlived its usefulness.’
The lawmaker said the committee’s recommendation for expulsion of MPs Suleiman Dori and Aisha Jumwa as well as six Homa Bay MCAs is misplaced.
“The committee has outlived its usefulness to the party. The situation has just moved from bad to worse,” Millie said.
