There was drama in Nairobi’s CBD at around Yaya Center after police accosted and roughed up a conductor who was filming them while they were urinating on a public wall.
The ‘Matiang’i boys’ are said to have attacked the conductor, beat him up and confiscated his phone.
Attempts by fellow conductors to help their colleague were futile as the police shot in the air to disperse them.
Eyewitnesses say the officers looked drunk.
Elsewhere, Boda boda operators have threatened to move to court to stop the work of a taskforce that was formed two days ago by the interior and transport ministry to look into the boda boda issues saying they have no representative.
Boda boda organisation national chairman Ken Onyango criticised the task force appointed by Transport CS James Macharia and Interior CS Fred Matiang’i saying it is consisting of people with little knowledge in the sector.
According to Onyango the taskforce has pilots and doctors instead of active participants in the boda boda sector.
‘‘We will sue them if they continue with the activities without our representation, are ready to fight to get our place.’’ Onyango said.
The taskforce is slated to complete its work before 31st January next year.
