Michael Oyamo, Migori Govenor Okoth Obado’s PA who is the main suspect in the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno, has been denied bail.
Homa Bay Senior Resident Magistrate Lester Simiyu ruled that Mr Oyamo should remain in police custody until tomorrow when he will be charged.
The Magistrate also warned against his alleged torture by police.
Mr Simiyu said that though Mr Oyamo has been in custody for a while now, “his freedom is not safe for social order”.
The prosecution led by assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Tom Imbali asked for an extra 10 days to complete investigations adding that DNA samples were still being analysed.
Oyamo’s lawyers opposed the request arguing that the prosecution had enough time to conduct investigations and that it was unfair to hold Oyamo any longer in police custody. The lawyers also told court that detectives had extracted his DNA samples illegally while in custody at the Oyugis Police Station.
The prosecution had requested to have Mr Oyamo detained for 10 more days but Mr Simiyu declined, granting them only 24 hours.
