Why Liberators and Revolutionists Need Traditional Women- Not Slay Queens

The spotlight is on Uganda.

This is because of the detention and torture of a  man many knew as a “Ghetto King” as he cut a niche as one of East African best Reggae artists. That was before chance thrust him into political spectrum- as Kyadondo East MP.

Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has now captured the attention of the World as his rising political stir continues to rattle and unsettle President Yoweri Museveni who in his inherent twisted manner of dealing with dissenting voices, has unleashed unfathomable terror on Bobi Wine.

But one person stands out in all these fiasco- Bobi Wine’s wife Barbie Itungo Kyagulanyi.

In a hundred ways, Barbie has portrayed what it means to be a real woman. Yes, she believes in her man. She has stood by her man.

Let us start with when her husband ditched music for politics and vied for the  Kyadondo East by-elections.

On the campaign trail, the beautiful woman who met Bobi in 2004 at the Ugandan National Theater brought out the best of her.

She has withstood the dust, confronted Police, knelt for votes and most importantly, was by Bobi’s side through the entire process beaming with enthusiasm and radiating hope.

She reeks of hard-work, patience, persistence and bears the aura of ambition around her.
While celebrating their marriage anniversary a few years ago, Barbie recalled the time, fourteen years ago, when they could not even afford the basic needs like food.
“Looking at the scorching sun this morning reminds me of the drought in my husband’s pocket 14 years ago.
One February, we were too broke to afford breakfast or even taxi fares from kanyanya to kamwokya. To get a meal, we had to open up an account of sorts at a restaurant in Kamwokya. The owner is such a good mutooro man. He let us eat any day anytime and my husband paid after several weeks whenever he got money.
We walked from our muzigo in kanyanya, through Bahai temple,Kyebando and down to Kamwokya everyday. I am from a well to do family but I chose not to cry to my relatives. During this time me and my husband had dreams and aspirations. He dreams big you know. As we walked through the dust and jumped those dirty myala everyday,we talked. Infact we always found ourselves in kamwokya somehow.
He told me of how he was going to be rich. How his music would never disappear from the surface of this earth. He told me that he would build an empire and his name would never be forgotten. The story is long…
I later realized that such times were meant to prepare us for a later stage when we had a lot to eat and a car to drive. See,when you are waiting on God to take you to another level, you have to learn to be content. Content with what you are/have at the moment. God is letting you go through such times to prepare you for when you reach that goal you are working so hard to achieve. You know,if you have not gone through the training of being happy and content with little, you will never be happy with a lot. Even if you achieve your dreams, you will be excited for a short while and then your spirit will start yearning for something bigger.
Be happy with the little you have as you dream big. Be patient in times of drought so that when it rains you will appreciate it more.
Me and my husband have learnt to appreciate each season. We are happy when we have a lot and when things seem to be tough. We have the ability to truly enjoy the hard times because we know we are being prepared for when things are better. Don’t sit and feel sorry for yourself whenever things are difficult. As you put your trust and energy in a better tomorrow don’t forget that the challenges you are facing today will be your fall back strength in future.”

Mrs. Bobi today fears for her husband and her family and their children have no seen their father in days.

She narrated what led to the arrest of her hubby.

Bobi Wine was with friends watching the news at a restaurant when news came out that his driver had been shot dead and quickly went into his room as gunshots raged on, and for many hours throughout the night, he kept hearing soldiers banging doors and breaking into rooms of the hotel.

She adds that later the soldiers came to his room and broke into it. They found him standing in the room and immediately ordered him to kneel down. However, before he could reach the floor, one soldier hit his head with an iron bar and he fell down. They all descended on him, stepping on his head with boots and hitting him everywhere. He became unconscious thereafter and after so many hours, he realized that he was at the Arua airfield on handcuffs. He can’t tell what they might have done to him during that time.

“After regaining consciousness, he was given many injections and has no idea what they were for. They took him to Gulu where he was detained. He can hardly remember what took place in court yesterday as he was only regaining consciousness,” he said.

“I have seen many victims of torture- never have I seen anyone in the state which Bobi is in! When he narrates these stories, you see the kind of trauma he is going through. When you set your eyes on him, you cannot help but wonder what kind of human beings can do such things to a fellow human being,”

But hear what she avers despite all that:

“Here is the good news- Bobi is strong at heart. His resolve has not diminished. His bones have been broken, but his spirit has not been crushed. He is still the husband I met many years ago. He knows that he is innocent of all that he is being accused of. His only crime is standing for justice and for trying to speak for the common person.
He asked me to be strong for the sake of our children and I promised him that I am strong and I will remain strong. I told him how many people in Uganda and abroad are very concerned about him and he asked me to appreciate you all on his behalf.
May God’s angels be with you Bobi in that military facility where I am not. May the God of heaven fight this battle for you and for all of us.”
Now that people is the reason why revolutionists and liberators need Traditional women, bred on virtues, decency, strength and discipline. Imagine if Bobi scored an Instagram crazed slay Queen for a wife.
