‘I Wish to Mend Fences with Wetangula, But He Doesn’t Pick My Calls,’ – Raila

Opposition leader Raila Odinga revealed futile attempts to reach out to NASA co-principal Moses Wetang’ula to mend their severed ties but the latter has not been picking his phone calls.

Speaking when he met western Kenya leaders in Kakamega led by Governor Wycliffe Oparanya on Tuesday 31st,  Raila said he was committed to reconcile with Wetang’ula who accused him of ousting him from Senate Minority leader’s position but he was snubbing him.

“I have tried the best I can to reach out to my brother Wetang’ula but he has not been picking my calls. We are determined to work together with all our leaders, shed light on issues we discussed with the president before handshake and develop our country,” Raila said.

The stalemate between the two leaders prompted western Kenya elected leaders from Jubilee and Opposition select Oparanya and task him with reconciling the two principals, a responsibility he welcomed with open hands.

“Wetang’ula could be annoyed with what happened in the Senate that is why he is not picking the calls. We are very committed to bring the two key leaders together to talk and walk together,” Oparanya said.

Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala who has been a fierce critic of Wetang’ula disclosed western Kenya leaders had agreed to end all dissent and focus on developing the region in the spirit of Uhuru-Raila handshake.

“Today’s meeting is to reaffirm our commitment to the spirit of the handshake. We consented to put politics aside, talk together amongst ourselves, Uhuru and Raila and develop our region,” an unusually calm Malala said.

As the leaders met in Kakamega, Wetang’ula paid Kalonzo a visit at the Wiper party offices in Karen, Nairob a day after he (Kalonzo) promised to reconcile the two allies turned bitter rivals.

Speaking after the meeting, Kalonzo said they had discussed issues surrounding NASA coalition and agreed there would be no more exchange of verbal jibes between members of Raila’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and Wetang’ula’s FORD Kenya
