Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s personal assistance Peterson Kimenyi was on Monday charged with robbery with violence at Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi.
Mr Kimenyi appeared before the court for assaulting former Nairobi Central Business District Association chairman Timothy Muriuki, who was robbed by goons at Boulevard Hotel in April. Milimani Law Courts Principal Magistrate Peter Ooko heard the case.
Mr Kimenyi was accused that on April 30, him and others who didn’t appear before the court, robbed with violence Sh100,000 from Timothy Muriuki at the hotel, when he had assembled journalists to address the press.
According to People Daily, he denied charges and was released on a cash bail of Sh200,000. The Court also gave him an alternative of a bond of Sh500,000 and the date for hearing the matter set at September 30
Earlier, Governor Mike Sonko distanced himself from goons who assaulted a businessman. The victim was roughed up by five men as he addressed a press conference on the state of Nairobi County at the city hotel.
The Nairobi County governor said claims that he had links with the five men are just hearsay, a rumor.
“Hearsay is not admissible in court and I will not allow anyone to tarnish my good name. Mr Muriuki is my friend and have never had any differences with him,”Mr Sonko told a local TV station.
The five had a bounty of Sh500,000 each but surrendered to Kilimani Police Station in Nairobi, nearly a week after the ugly incident.
