Left in the cold alongside fellow coat-hangers following the March 9 handshake between NASA leader Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta, Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka is a man struggling to keep afloat.
Even after his lieutenants revealed that Wiper was in advance steps of forging a formidable alliance with KANU chairman Gideon Moi, Kalonzo seems torn between the latter and his political nemesis DP William Ruto.
Two days ago, Tiaty MP William Kamket said he personally took it upon himself to bring together the two likely presidential hopefuls (Kalonzo and Moi) for a possible alliance.
“Before I come here, I visited retired president Moi at his home in Kabarak and he asked me to ask Kalonzo to work with Gideon so that we capture this country’s presidency,” said KANU lawmaker in a visit to Ukambani.
His sentiments were shared by Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua who said the two opposition parties would embark on a journey to bring their leaders together to keep their presidential ambitions alive.
However, Kalonzo given the moniker water melon owing to his lack of decisiveness seems to have found another ally in Ruto and the two have reaffirmed their commitment to work together when they attended an Iftar dinner hosted by Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko at Charter Hall on Wednesday evening following their own ‘hugshake’.
“My brother, do not mind what people say, so long we are clear in our minds that we are doing the right things. Those who want to talk can talk,” Ruto said.
The DP said that the politics is over and called on politicians to embrace competition based on development agenda rather than division and tribalism.
Kalonzo said that he stands for the country’s unity, but clarified that the handshake does not imply that the opposition had joined the ruling party.
“We are saying that NASA will continue performing its role as the opposition. If there is corruption, like it is now, we will rebuke it and call for action,” he added.
