Nairobi MCAs have warned government officials against undermining Governor Sonko and his administration and asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to intervene.
“What we saw happening in public was the highest form of disrespect and discrimination. It is unacceptable and it is something that should not have happened because the governor was overwhelmingly elected by the people and deserved that respect and recognition,” Majority leader Abdi Guyo said.
The legislators, drawn from the Jubilee party were reacting to the protocol hitch that occurred during the National Tree Planting Day at Moi Forces Academy, Kamukunji, on Saturday.
They claim that a section of the executive is out to frustrate Sonko and make sure that he fails in delivering his mandate by sabotaging him.
Waithaka MCA Anthony Karanja said they are now demanding an immediate apology from Environment CS Keriako Tobiko.
“It was very clear that Tobiko did not recognize the presence of Governor Sonko. Actually, this is not the first time that Sonko is being subjected to this kind of humiliation, we have just been silent about it,” he added.
Mlango-Kubwa MCA Patricia Mutheu who noted that even if some leaders do not respect Governor Sonko, his office ought to be respected.
“Disrespecting Sonko means disrespecting the will of those who woke up early on August 8 to go and vote. We demand respect and we demand an apology,” she stated.
During the event, Tobiko skipped Sonko and welcomed Deputy President William Ruto, forcing the governor to stand up and grab the microphone to address the gathering. Sonko lashed at the minister and accused his opponents of trying to undermine him.
The Jubilee leaders claimed there is a scheme by some officials in the national government to frustrate the governor.
