Former Nairobi Woman Representative Rachel Shebesh has turned down an offer by Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko to consider being his deputy. According to media reports. Shebesh she is not interested in the position left vacant by Polycarp Igathe. Mr. Igather resigned just five months into office after an alleged falling out with Sonko.
Sonko had teamed up with Shebesh and Johnson Sakaja to deliver Nairobi to Jubilee. Unfortunately, Shebesh was beaten by ODM’s Esther Passaris for the Nairobi Woman Rep seat while Sakaja won the Senate seat.
However, Shebesh turned down the offer insisting that she was now a civil servant committed to serving the nation as the CAS in the Ministry of labour. I am no longer a politician, I am now a civil servant. Let me just say this to the people of Nairobi: I do know that there is a vacancy for the post of deputy governor, I have not applied for it, I am not looking for it,” she said.
She was speaking in response to Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi who had urged her to accept the position if she is picked by Sonko. All eyes are on Sonko as he prepares to announce his deputy after months of the position remaining vacant.
